Pousada Castelo de Estremoz revives the day of its inauguration

The Pousada Queen Santa Isabel, housed in the former citadel of Estremoz Castle, completed 50 years of activity after its inauguration. On 25 September 2020, this moment was recreated by the Pestana Pousadas Group, in a commemorative event attended by various entities.

This historic Pousada is located in a castle that King D. Dinis ordered built in the 13th century, as a gift for his wife, Queen Santa Isabel, who died here in 1336. A place of battles, love and betrayal, it was during the reign of Queen Santa Isabel that Estremoz became one of the kingdom's main political centres, hosting important figures and being the privileged stage for royal politics throughout the end of the first dynasty. In 1910, the castle, the town walls and the Chapel of Queen Santa Isabel were classified as a National Monument.

Today, it offers all the comfort and quality of the Pousadas de Portugal brand, with a classical decoration where 17th and 18th century pieces, high reliefs in gilded woodcarvings and antique tapestries predominate. The rooms are spacious and worthy of royalty, with canopy beds and the most modern amenities. The hotel also offers an outdoor pool and a magnificent panoramic view over Estremoz and the Alentejo plain.
